Summary: MT5 does not offer a native macOS version. Learn two practical ways to run MT5 on Mac: the official Wine/Gecko method and a Windows virtual machine alternative.
Step 1: Download the Official MT5 Installer
Go to your broker’s website or the official MetaQuotes site. Download the Windows .exe installation file for MT5. Save it to your Downloads folder. Screenshot: download page showing MT5 Windows installer.
Step 2: Use the Official Wine/Gecko Method (Recommended)
Open the downloaded .exe file directly on macOS. A popup will appear saying “Wine/Gecko is required”. Click “Install” and follow the on-screen prompts. Screenshot: Wine/Gecko installation popup on Mac.
Step 3: Complete MT5 Installation
After Wine/Gecko is installed, the MT5 installer will launch automatically. Click “Next” → accept the agreement → choose installation folder → click “Next” → “Install”. Screenshot: MT5 installer running inside Wine on Mac.
Step 4: Launch MT5
Check “Launch MetaTrader 5” and click “Finish”. The platform will open as a native-looking Mac application. Screenshot: MT5 main window on macOS desktop.
Step 5: Alternative Method – Windows Virtual Machine
If the Wine method fails, use a free virtual machine like VirtualBox. Install Windows 10/11 inside it, then run the MT5 installer normally. This method is more stable but requires more disk space and RAM. Screenshot: VirtualBox running Windows with MT5 open.
