Summary: This guide covers everything about MT4 desktop indicators: how to add them from the Navigator panel, customize parameters, apply to charts, and remove unwanted indicators.
Step 1: Open the Navigator Panel
Launch MT4 on your PC. If the Navigator panel is not visible, press Ctrl+N or click “View” → “Navigator”. The panel usually sits on the left side. Screenshot: Navigator panel with Indicators folder expanded.
Step 2: Expand the Indicators Folder
In the Navigator panel, find the “Indicators” folder. Click the small arrow or plus sign next to it to expand the list. You will see dozens of built-in indicators like Moving Average, RSI, MACD, Bollinger Bands, etc. Screenshot: Expanded Indicators folder showing the list.
Step 3: Add an Indicator to Your Chart
Click and drag any indicator (e.g., “Moving Average”) directly onto your chart. Release the mouse button. A settings window will pop up immediately. Screenshot: Dragging Moving Average indicator onto EURUSD chart.
Step 4: Customize Indicator Parameters
In the settings window, adjust the parameters: period (e.g., 14), shift, MA method (Simple, Exponential, etc.), apply to (Close, Open, etc.), and color/style. Click “OK” to apply. The indicator will appear on your chart. Screenshot: Moving Average settings window with customized values.
