FXEAR Exclusive James Harwood Today's Trading Opportunities: USDJPY Short & USDCHF Long Lead High-Conviction Signals
Data source: FxearQT Complete Forex 10-Pair Technical Analysis, 2026-06-23 01:30
I spent the better part of this morning cross-checking the QT system output against my own read of the charts. What jumped out immediately was the USDJPY short — not because the signal is new, but because the fundamental backdrop has shifted in a way that makes this trade far more compelling than the raw numbers suggest.
USDJPY Short — The Cleanest Signal on the Board
Let me walk you through what the system gave me. Current bid sits at 156.860, with a spread of 39 pips. The daily trend is bearish — EMA20 below EMA60. Daily RSI(14) reads 44.49, which is weak but not oversold. No divergence signal. Daily ATR(14) is 1.537 (1536 pips), which the system flags as elevated volatility.
The recommended entry is 156.761, right at the upper end of the entry zone. Stop loss at 158.882 — that's 2120 pips of risk. Take profit at 153.580 — 3181 pips of reward. The risk-reward ratio works out to 1.50:1, and the ATR ratio is 1.38, which the system classifies as normal.
The Bank of Japan raised rates to 1.25% on September 18, the highest since 1995, yet the yen didn't rally. Two board members dissented, and the market is questioning whether the BOJ has the stomach for further tightening. Nomura's team sees USDJPY at 150-155 by year-end.
Here's my personal take: the CFTC data shows yen net longs at 120,359 contracts — the first bullish turn since 2025. Institutions are positioned for yen strength, but retail is still 55% long USDJPY. That divergence is the trade. When institutions and retail disagree this starkly, I lean with the institutions.
USDCHF Long — Trend Strength Meets Contrarian Warning
The system output for USDCHF is interesting. Current bid 0.82181, spread 49 pips. Daily trend is bullish across all three timeframes — daily, 4H, and 1H all show EMA20 above EMA60/EMA200. RSI(14) is 68.12, which is strong but not yet overbought. No divergence. ATR(14) is 0.00511 (511 pips).
Entry is at 0.82068, stop at 0.81480 (588 pips risk), take profit at 0.82951 (883 pips reward). Risk-reward is 1.50:1, ATR ratio 1.15 — the system flags this as a tight stop.
The Swiss National Bank meets on September 24 and is expected to hold rates at zero. The rate differential continues to favor the dollar. UOB sees 0.8300 as the key resistance level.
My contrarian note here: the retail long percentage is 82%, which triggers the system's contrarian short signal. I'm not ignoring that. But when a trend is this strong across all timeframes and the fundamental backdrop supports it, I'd rather trade with the trend and use a tighter stop than fight it. The 0.8300 level is where I'd be watching for exhaustion.
NZDUSD Short — Strong Trend, But Watch the Divergence
Current bid 0.57204, spread 56 pips. Daily trend is bearish across all three timeframes — this is a strong trend signal. RSI(14) is 32.48, weak. But here's the critical detail: there's a bottom divergence — price made a new low but RSI did not. The system explicitly warns: "下跌动能减弱,建议收紧空头止损或部分减仓."
Entry at 0.57273, stop at 0.57824 (551 pips risk), take profit at 0.56447 (826 pips reward). Risk-reward 1.50:1, ATR ratio 1.15 — tight stop flagged.
ING believes 0.570 is a temporary bottom. If the Fed reprices dovishly, NZDUSD could rebound to 0.59 by year-end.
I'm going to be honest — this is the signal I'm most cautious about. The trend is strong, the CFTC data is missing for NZD, and the bottom divergence is a genuine warning. I'd take this trade with reduced size and a mental stop at 0.5750.
Gold — Range Trading With Geopolitical Wildcard
Current bid 4377.69, spread 63 pips. Daily trend is bullish, but 4H is bearish and 1H is bullish — the system calls this "观望" (neutral). RSI(14) is 48.43, right at the midline. No divergence. ATR(14) is 105.30 (10529 pips).
The 4H high is 4399.40, the 4H low is 4235.12. Fibonacci 0.382 sits at 4336.65, and 0.618 at 4297.87. Price is 2171 pips from the 4H high — the system says "极近" (extremely close). It's 14256 pips from the 4H low — "中等" (medium).
The World Gold Council notes central bank buying remains structurally strong. Goldman Sachs maintains a year-end target of 4650, with 5400 for 2027. The Trump-Gulf leaders meeting on September 22 is the wildcard — escalation would boost safe-haven demand, de-escalation would pressure the premium.
My view: I'd rather wait for a pullback to the 4300 zone than chase at 4377. The risk-reward at current levels isn't compelling enough for me.
Bitcoin — Trend Is Up, But the Stop Is Too Tight
Current bid 81042.95, spread 4000 pips. Daily/4H/1H all bullish. RSI(14) 64.26, strong. No divergence. ATR(14) is 2141.36 (214136 pips).
Entry at 76828.06, stop at 75596.77 (123129 pips risk), take profit at 78674.98 (184692 pips reward). Risk-reward 1.50:1. But the ATR ratio is 0.58 — the system explicitly flags "止损过窄" (stop too tight).
JPMorgan notes Bitcoin ETF short interest is near year-highs, suggesting large marginal improvement space. Bernstein has a year-end target of 150,000. The 82917 level is the key confirmation for a W pattern.
I agree with the bullish bias, but the stop is dangerously tight. I'd widen it to at least 1.0x ATR — around 75000 — before considering this trade.
EURUSD — Bottom Divergence, But Trend Is Messy
Current bid 1.14845, spread 25 pips. Daily bullish, 4H bearish, 1H bearish. RSI(14) 34.68, weak. There's a bottom divergence — price made a new low but RSI did not. ATR(14) is 0.00476 (475 pips).
ING warns of 1.1400 downside risk. The Fed's hawkish hike keeps the dollar strong.
The divergence is interesting, but with 4H and 1H both bearish, I'd wait for a confirmed reversal before going long.
GBPUSD — Top Divergence Warning
Current bid 1.33911, spread 50 pips. Daily bullish, 4H/1H bearish. RSI(14) 31.66, weak. There's a top divergence — price made a new high but RSI did not. ATR(14) is 0.00589 (588 pips).
UK retail sales beat at +0.5% vs expected -0.2%, but the BoE held rates at 3.75% with a cautious 6:3 vote. UOB sees 1.3435 as strong resistance.
The top divergence plus the BoE's cautious tone makes me lean short, but the retail beat is a counterweight. I'd want to see a break below 1.3370 before committing.
AUDUSD — Triple Timeframe Bullish, But Tight Stop
Current bid 0.71227, spread 60 pips. Daily/4H/1H all bullish. RSI(14) 45.72, weak but with bottom divergence. ATR(14) is 0.00429 (429 pips).
Entry at 0.71135, stop at 0.70641 (494 pips risk), take profit at 0.71876 (741 pips reward). Risk-reward 1.50:1, ATR ratio 1.15 — tight stop flagged.
RBA Governor Bullock warned of upside inflation risks. The unemployment rate on September 24 is the key data point.
The triple timeframe alignment is attractive, but the tight stop and weak RSI give me pause. I'd size down.
USDCAD — Neutral, Wait for Clarity
Current bid 1.39826, spread 66 pips. Daily bearish, 4H/1H bullish — the system says neutral. RSI(14) 61.09, strong. Bottom divergence present. ATR(14) is 0.00617 (617 pips).
The US-Canada rate differential has widened to 175bp, pressuring the loonie. Scotiabank's fair value model suggests USD is overvalued.
I'm staying out until the daily and 4H trends align.
EURGBP — Fibonacci Confluence Support
Current bid 0.85740, spread 34 pips. Daily bearish, 4H/1H bullish — neutral. RSI(14) 56.72, strong. Bottom divergence. ATR(14) is 0.00251 (251 pips). The Fibonacci 0.618 level overlaps with EMA200 at 0.85706 — the system notes this strengthens the zone.
Danske Bank sees GBP weakening vs EUR. The BoE's cautious stance supports this view.
I'd wait for a clear break of either 0.85470 or 0.86056 before trading.
Final Notes
The two signals I'm most comfortable with are USDJPY short and USDCHF long. Both have clear fundamental drivers, institutional positioning that supports the trade, and risk-reward ratios that meet my criteria. The NZDUSD short is technically strong but the bottom divergence concerns me. Gold and Bitcoin are trends I'd rather wait on than chase.
